Have you done all you want to do? Will you ever get it all done? Do we understand the power of the word "Yet"?
No matter how hard we try, we always have more to do. I hear it all the time in my classes. People feel overwhelmed so give up, or believe they can never do, so many things. I am in Southland this week and I looked at this signpost at Bluff. Have I been to all these places?? My answer ordinarily would be NO! Imagine if I changed the answer to "Not Yet." That way, I can keep all options open, no matter how old or broke or sick or busy I am.
I remember as a young mother, I couldn't drive. People would asked me, "can you drive?". My answer was always NO. I got to the point where, even though I had four kids, I was stuck, stuck in the belief I was a non-driver! The change in my attitude by saying "not yet" would have helped me immensely. I was, I thought, happy in the knowledge I was a non-driver. How ridiculous. I never even attempted to rectify it, I was always too busy, scared or uninterested to do anything about it. I must have missed out on so much. I finally learnt to drive and got my license at 27!! 12 years later than all my friends! Imagine what I could have achieved if I had the independence driving would have given me.
I have people in my classes that constantly say "I'm not good with money". It's like they have caught some "bad money" incurable disease. We have a running joke in my classes, where the answer to any question is either "yes" or "not yet".
It is a fun option in your home to explore, imagine the answers from your whanau and your partners about these types of questions:
- Have you made your bed?
- Are you good at maths?
- Have you been to see your friend?
- Have you peeled the potatoes?
- Would you like a cup of tea?
- Did you fly to the moon?
- Did you pay off your mortgage?
- Do you understand money?
- Have you discovered any gold?
- Have you finished your degree?
- Did you lose 30 kgs?
- Did you make peace with the neighbour?
- Did you catch the biggest fish?
Believe in yourself and know that, no matter what you are doing, it is only a matter of time and learning before you get it right, once again I say, keep on trying!
This effects our finances as well and how we deal with them. Our parents believed they should never get a new car and never pay off a mortgage early, but I wonder if they had answered questions about this with NOT YET instead of NO, they may have believed it was possible.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, remember to look after each other and feel free to share, follow, comment, and/or question my blog, thanks so much for reading.
So true Sarah. Not yet, is a great mantra for achieving those things we think aren't possible (yet)😀 😊
